From November 23th to 25th, 2020, the 14th International Ocean and Polar Engineering Conference-Pacific-Asia Offshore Mechanics Symposium (ISOPE PACOMS-2020) hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology was successfully held in Soluxe Heyi Hotel Dalian. More than 60 people from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Engineering University, Dalian Maritime University, Dalian Ocean University and Dalian University of Technology, etc., participated in the on-site conference.
The opening ceremony began at 8:30 am on November, 23th. It was hosted by Prof. NING Dezhi and was broadcast live simultaneously. More than 150 people attended the online conference. The video-form summary of the PACOMS history prepared by Prof. JIN Chung, the chairman of ISOPE, was played. After that, Prof. LI Yucheng, one of the founders of the PACOMS, delivered a welcome speech, and on behalf of the executive committee, presented the ISOPE PACOMS-Award plaques to the chairmen of the conference, Prof. TENG Bin and Prof. NING Dezhi for their invaluable contribution to the organization of fourteenth ISOPE PACOMS. Prof. TENG Bin presided over the keynote address of the conference. Prof. ZHANG Huaqing, vice president and chief Engineer of Tianjin Research Institute for Water Transport Engineering of the Ministry of Transportation, gave a keynote address entitled "Advances in Submerged Floating Tunnel Research". After the opening ceremony, five sessions were held for participants to discuss and exchange ideas.
The first ISOPE PACOMS was held in Seoul, South Korea in 1990. It is held every two years. The State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology has hosted the PACOMS in 1994 and 2006. This year is the third time to host this international symposium for the laboratory. The symposium received more than 140 abstracts from ten countries in the Asia-Pacific region. After expert review, more than 80 papers were finally accepted and published in the conference proceeding, covering coastal hydrodynamics, ocean energy and wind energy, ocean technology, vortex-induced-vibration, soil and pipelines, arctic shipping, and ocean vehicles, etc. A total of 21 sessions are set up and all the reports provide video files for online playback and exchange. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the organizer overcame difficulties and organized online and on-site meetings simultaneously, providing a platform for participants to fully communicate.
