From November 24th to 26th, the2nd Dalian University of Technology-Saitama University Online InternationalJoint Seminar was successfully held. The three-day international joint seminar is led by the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Dalian University of Technology and hosted byFaculty of Infrastructure Engineering. As one of the series of activities of the "2020 Dalian University of Technology-Overseas Friendly Universities Series Online Exchange Meetings", this seminar was conducted in both online and on-site forms. The forms of exchange activities included academic seminars, cooperation meeting, and students seminar.
At the opening ceremony of the seminar, Cong Fengyu, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Dalian University of Technology, explained the university's short-term and long-term international exchange and cooperation projects in detail. Professor MatsumotoYasunaofrom Saitama University gave a comprehensive introduction about Saitama University, focusing on the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ning Dezhi, deputy dean of the Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering of Dalian University of Technology, introduced the faculty in detail from the perspectives of history, scientific research, international cooperation, and so on.
In the next two days of academic seminars, Chinese and Japanese professors introduced and exchanged ideas on their research work.
On the afternoon of November 25th, the two universities held a bilateral cooperation meeting. Professor MatsumotoYasunao from Saitama University fully affirmed the deep friendship between Saitama University and Dalian University of Technology and proposed a dual degree training program. Director Cong Fengyupraised the program and proposed adding 3+2 or 3+1+2 training program to the memorandum of understanding. Deputy dean Ning Dezhi expressed the hope that two universities could deepen cooperation in the areas of long-term and short-term student exchanges and scientific research cooperation between faculty members.
The student seminar was held on the afternoon of November 26th. It is also supported by the Sakura Project (JST). Associate Professor Dang JifromSaitama University, Associate Professor Cui YaofromDalian University of Technology, and Lin from Japan Chuanjin Co., Ltd. delivered lectures on cutting-edge technologies in civil engineering disciplines to undergraduates (members of the American Society of Civil Engineers Dalian University of Technology Student Branch). The students from Saitama University also showed their laboratory online and demonstrated the experimental operation process in person.
At the closing ceremony, associate professor Cui Yao, the main initiator of this international exchange seminar, said that in the fast-developing international context, educational exchanges also need to keep up with the general trend of international development. She hoped that this seminar could be seen as an opportunity to consolidate the friendship between the two universities and promote the academic and student exchanges, creating an international-level example of university exchanges.
